A Run With Your Wine?
After the serious research driven tips in the previous running post we're pointing you towards an equally important part of marathon running. The wine. Well, it's a serious part if you manage to get a place in the Marathon Du Medoc.
Taking part in the Bordeaux region of France it goes in hard on the regional exports. For many marathoners the Boston, New-York and Berlin marathons may be the bucket list. But for an entirely different kind of marathon runner the Marathon du Medoc should be top of the list.
It is an actual marathon, all 42k of it, but it also throws in the following:
Compulsory fancy dress (80s theme this year)
20+ Wine stops including Bordeaux Gran Cru
Champagne pre fueling
Fueling stations with cheese, saucisson, foie gras and oysters
Carnival mid-run celebrations
Probable distain if you take the run seriously
There's 8500 places each year and it fills up in minutes. The organisers enforce a time limit of six and a half hours, but we suspect for different reasons than a normal marathon.
If it sounds like the kind of endurance event you might actually consider then you can get all the details you need on the official website here.
