The TOTEMIC Journal– Smarter fuel. Better ideas.
Can a simple Multi-Vitamin help your brain?
We listen to a lot of pods round here. A lot of them on health, fitness and wellbeing. Given the number of them out there, we thought we'd post some recommendations when we listen to good ones or come across good ideas.
This one featured 2 folks we've listened to for a long time. Tim Ferris (like, actually the longest time) and Rhonda Patrick. Everyone knows Tim, right? But Rhonda Patrick also has a great pod on fitness and health called FoundMyFitness. You can listen to it here.
This was long, as usual, but we wanted to flag something they were saying about aging, cognition and multi-vitamins. Basically, a generic multi-vit seems to be incredibly good for our brains as we age. They're not entirely sure why that is but the effect seems to be undeniable.
"And these three randomized controlled trials were two years long. What they showed was that taking a multivitamin for two years had pretty enormous effects on cognitive aging. These were in older adults. These were adults who were 65 years of age or older. That’s where my parents are.
And after two years of taking the multivitamin, they had improved cognition on a battery of different tests that equated to reducing global cognitive aging by about two years. And on top of that, they reduced their episodic aging by five years. Almost five years. It was 4.8 years. Episodic memory is the kind of memory that’s involved in remembering events, things that happen in your life. And so that’s a big effect. Five years of reduced episodic brain aging, episodic memory, brain aging."
They cover a lot of other ground around health protocols and aging but, for the purposes of this post, that's the insight we wanted to flag.
And also that our CORE block contains a multivit. Jus sayin...
