Why is everyone in stacked running shoes?

This is an old article, from 2020 to be precise, but we still seem to send it out to folks fairly regularly so we figure it's probably of interest. Things have moved on since it was written but it's the best overview of what shoe technology has done to running that we've come across. Doesn't hurt that it lies in the centre of our perfect Venn diagram: Sport, Technology, Design.

It's an easy read and lays out one of the reasons why there's been so many eye popping marathon times recently. If you want to get a feel for just how quick a 2 hour marathon is, try setting your treadmill to the average speed of 21 kmph and see how you go. (Insert the vid of folks trying to match pace.)
